New Research in Translation and Interpreting Studies 2011

Introduction

The Intercultural Studies Group is pleased to announce its fifth international conference for graduate students and young scholars: New Research in Translation and Interpreting Studies 2011.

Languages: English, Spanish.

Format: Speakers will be given 20 minutes to present their project; each presentation will be followed by 15 minutes of discussion. This format is designed to promote international contacts among novice researchers and to encourage extensive feedback from peers.

Deadlines: Proposals by January 20, 2011. Notification of acceptance by March 1, 2011.

Venue: The conference will be in the Sala de Graus (ground floor) and Sala de Juntes (first floor) of the Campus Catalunya (at your left-hand side just after entering the campus through the main gate), Universitat Rovira i Virgili, 35 Avinguda Catalunya, Tarragona.

Organization: The conference is organized by the Intercultural Studies Group as part of its doctoral program in Translation and Intercultural Studies.

Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak

Alexis Nouss

Chair of Modern Cultural Studies and convenor of the MA in Translation studies at the School of European Studies, Cardiff University, UK. He is also Associate professor in the Department of linguistics and translation, University of Montreal, Canada. His research interests include theory of translation, European cultures, cultural hybridity andmétissage, convergence betweeen Black memory and Jewish memory, aesthetics of modernism and postmodernism, and Holocaust literature.    
He founded and is chairing 'Poexil, a research group working on the cultural expressions of exilic and diasporic experiences, as well as the 'Cardiff Research Group on the Politics of Translating'. He is a founding member of the 'Grupo de Investigación Traducción & Paratraducción', Vigo University.
