New Research in Translation and Interpreting Studies 2009

Introduction

Following the success of the conferences in Tarragona in 2005, 2006 and 2008, the Intercultural Studies Group is pleased to announce the fourth international conference for graduate students and young scholars engaged in research on Translation and Interpreting Studies, many of whom will be presenting their first papers. The format is designed to promote international contacts among novice researchers and to encourage extensive feedback from peers.

Languages: English, Spanish.

Format: Speakers will be given 20 minutes to present their project; each presentation will be followed by 15 minutes of discussion. This format is designed to promote international contacts among novice researchers and to encourage extensive feedback from peers.

Deadlines: Proposals by April 20, 2009. Notification of acceptance by April 30, 2009.

Venue: The conference will be in the Sala de Graus (ground floor) and Sala de Juntes (first floor) of the Campus Catalunya (at your left-hand side just after entering the campus through the main gate), Universitat Rovira i Virgili, 35 Avinguda Catalunya, Tarragona.

Organization: The conference is organized by the Intercultural Studies Group as part of its doctoral program in Translation and Intercultural Studies.

Keynote Speakers

arnt jakobson

Arnt Lykke Jakobsen

Research professor, Department of International Language Studies and Computational Linguistics, Copenhagen Business School. Director of the Center for Research and Innovation in Translation and Translation Technology (CRITT) Developer of Translog. Member of the European research project Eye to IT, using eye-tracking to analyze human-computer interaction. Author of a series of articles on empirical research on translation processes.

lenita esteves

Lenita Rimoli Esteves

Professor of English Translation in the Department of Modern Languages at Universidade de Sao Paulo, USP, Brazil. She is also a professional translator, having worked in many areas, mainly for publishing houses. Her main research interests at the moment are Translation and Ethics. She teaches translation theory and practice at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
